Lettering on Completed Project

I recently knitted a baby blanket for a gift, and I wanted to add the baby's name. I've found ways to duplicate stitches on stockinette to add embellishments, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to add lettering to garter stitches.

I don't know. I wonder if embroidering with cross stitches would work? Or some other sort of embroidery.

Here's a method for duplicate stitch on garter stitch. I'm not sure how well it will work for letters though.
