Stash Ideas?

I have a lot of stash and can't decide what to do with it. I have started knitting a square - Simply Knittting magazine prints the patterns for 3 squares per issue with a different stitch in each square, the idea being to practise the stitches and knit enough to make into a blanket. I'm not sure I like the idea of knitting loads of squares, so I would like some other ideas.

I've got the same problem!! I've got a whole plastic bin stuffed full of odds & ends of balls of yarn. Mostly left-overs from finished projects.

A friend of mine suggested knitting a zig-zag afghan with all of it. Starting with 1 color and then just adding the others on as time goes on.

Not sure exactly what I'm going to do yet, but wanted to let you know that you're NOT ALONE!!!!!

I was thinking of using my stash to knit Christmas tree ornaments as gifts. Another thing you can do is knit a blanket with the odds and ends. Either make it in stripes, or just attach a new ball of yarn and keep knitting wherever you run out. Your local animal shelter would love these blankets.

Start on your Christmas presents. There are lots and lots of patterns for small stuff (from toys to hats to fingerless gloves to pot holders to wash cloths).

I don't know what kind of yarn you have (probably a mix), but find an assortment of small projects and then select a yarn suitable for each. This would certainly keep you from getting bored doing the same thing over and over again (squares).

I've got a lot of stash yarn that are single skeins, left overs, and yarn I don't particularly like anymore. I've slowly been making hats for charity. I tend to make them in between times, when I want to try something or when I just need a mindless project. I've probably got about 15 or more now.

If you like the charity idea you can also make socks, squares or strips to sew together or a seamless log cabin type.

I inherited a lot of partial skeins from my Mom when we moved her into Assisted Living. I'm thinking a vest or sweater something like this will help use up a bunch of it.

Check with your local elementary school. Their teachers might love partial skeins for the kids' art projects. The women in my church make quilts for charity. Those would be just the ticket for tying them.

You might want to take a try at some of the patterns in "One Ball Knits Accessories" by Fatemah, Khadijah, & Hajera Habibur-Rahman. There's pretty much something for everyone in that book.

I have been building my stash and using Ravelry's stash feature to catalogue it. I keep animal fibres seperate from acrylic and I have a cotton-only been, too. You can export it as a spreadsheet to OpenOffice Calc or Micro$oft Excel if you prefer. :D :D
