question on crocheting

New to crocheting can anyone tell me what this means?

(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next sc (shell made)

I think I understand the first part means do 2 double crochet, chain 2 then do 2 more double crochet in same stitch. Don't understand "in next sc (shell made)

Yes, it means to do all that in the next st which is a sc from the previous row. That sequence of sts makes a shell stitch.

Yes, the "in next st" part just means do all those things in brackets, in the next stitch. And then then "shell made" part, just means that all the stuff in brackets that you just did, makes up one shell stitch.
