horizontal ribbing

I have a question about ribbing- in a knitting book I have it mentions horizontal ribbing (welt) but doesn't say how to do it. Anyone here that knows how to? I would be so grateful for your input. Thank you.

Do you mean horizontal ribbing likt the pattern in this sweater?

Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Rows 2 and 5: Purl.
Rows 3 and 4: Knit.
Row 6: Knit.

Yes, on the front of the sweater-that's it! Thank you! I'm a brand new knitter, and I'm making lots of swatches of different stitch patterns. I plan to sew them together into throws, or...other things? Thanks much.
