Stash Projects

I decided to knit a cowl for my daughter and use some fuzzy yarn she had chosen for a jacket a few years ago, which I had abandoned as I found the yarn difficult to knit that particular project with. Well, I cast on and knit about 1 row before realizing that the 2 balls of yarn I was using were getting tangled up together, so I've been spending the last few days undoing the tangle.

Another pattern I found online to use my stash on - probably several times over - is for a cross-shaped bookmark. I'm doing that in some rainbow worsted wool I had.

I've been wanting to knit a phone cover for a friend. I noticed that she is rather fond of wearing black and remembered that I have enough of a black and white yarn to make her one.

None of these will be Christmas gifts lol.

Always good to use up stash! Then you don't feel as guilty buying more yarn.

I make stuff for charity with my old stash where I don't have enough for a big project. Like striped hats, mitts, etc.

Oh and that fuzzy stuff... I hate knitting with it, too.

It sounds like you have some great ideas for using up your excess odds and ends!

But don't do what I do: Think you have enough left-over yarn to make a big project, run out mid-project, and then buy more of the very yarn you're trying to get rid of!! Ugh!

Stick with the small stuff for stash projects, and if you have to use up that fuzzy yarn, do something simple with it--something that doesn't require detail work or keeping track of stitches and stuff!

I recently crocheted some ear-warmer headband thingies for my mom's friend. Kind of like these: http://taras-knits.blogspot.com/2008...sions-1-2.html. I've seen lots of these around and heard of people buying them far and wide (from Texas to Alaska), so they must be in style or something?

I'm on the lookout for stash busters. Too many too small to make anything scraps and too few ideas. Where is it written, you cannot ever under any circumstances throw away yarn? I know it must be carved in stone somewhere.
