Reading a pattern
I am rather new to knitting and have a pattern question.

The pattern says First Row: K1,(P1, K1) Second Row: P1, (K1,P1)

Do I repeat the whole thing or just what is in the perentheses?

Yes repeat what's in parenthesis.

First Row: K1,(P1, K1) - knit one st then p1 k1 to the end of the row.
Second Row: P1, (K1,P1) - purl 1 stitch, then k1 p1 to the end of the row.
