This is my first post so i would like to take the opportunity to say hello to everyone, i am a complete beginner, i have just finished my first project which was a headband in garter stitch for my girlfriend.
I know the knit stitch and the purl stitch and i have found this pattern for a lovely looking cowl that i think both of us would like. What i dont want to do is start following this instruction the way i think i should if its not actually the correct way.
The pattern is just repeating this row until it reaches the desired length
Slip 1 purlwise, k to end
Am i right in thinking that i need to slip the first stitch purl wise and then knit the rest of the stitches in that row with a knit stitch, and then do that for every row?
For reference here is the pattern
Cast on 58 sts.
Row 1: Slip 1 purlwise, k to end.
Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 26” from beginning. Bind off
Sew bound off edge to cast on edge
Thanks for any help and also sorry if i have put this in the wrong place.
Supposedly, slipping the first stitch will make a nice chained edge. I get a looser messier edge when I slip the first one and also don't think it's necessary on garter stitch (knit every row). You don't have to do it, just knit the stitch instead.
