knit stitch help
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I don't see how I am doing it any different than the video, but there are long strings between each row of stitches. Any ideas? I am using long tail cast on.

Long strands at the ends of the rows or long strands at every stitch? Try taking a look at the Demo of a small project video under Getting started on the Free Videos tab and see it that helps.

If you're on the first row, it's from your cast on. The backward loop is easy to do, but hard to knit into and will leave yarn strands and loops between stitches. Use another, the knit or cable CO are easy and long tail is a very good general purpose one. The loop CO shouldn't really be done to begin a project, or for just a few stitches.
