shaker knit trouble

I love the shaker knit sweaters and am knitting a child's pullover. I always have trouble staying in pattern when increasing and decreasing for sleeves and armholes. Help!

Shaker stitch is a variation of brioche stitch, it just does k1b instead of the sl/yo and ktog on the next row. You may find some ideas on the Brioche st website.

yes i know how to do the stitch and i love the pattern that's why i want to do a sweater in it, it's just that when they say decrease by one or increase by one it throws off my pattern and i have trouble staying in pattern

You may have to keep the new sts, or the ones that were decreased in plain knit or rib until there's enough to do the pattern.
