oz. yards and grams of yarn
Hi my name is lilsquat64.
I'm just learning how to knit. I was wondering when a pattern calls for certain oz. yards and grams do u look for that yarn w same nos. or can u use different oz. yards and grams and just use same weight of yarn?

You can use a different yarn, as long as the weight/guage is the same.

If the pattern doesn't give the total number of yards needed, you should calculate how much the original yarn has (X balls of that are 100(whatever) yds each = XX yds of yarn) and make sure the new yarn you are using has the same number of yards.

Use a similar yarn in the same weight category - sock, dk, worsted, bulky - that will be a similar gauge on the label, then match the total yardage for how much to use.
