z cuff sock help again

ok I started the "Turn heel
Row 1 (WS) Sl 1, p12, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 2 Sl 1, k6, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 3 Sl 1, p to 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 4 Sl 1, k to 1 st before gap, ssk, k1, turn.
Rep rows 3 and 4 once more. Rep row 3.
Next row Sl 1, k12, ssk—all heel sts have been worked
(14 heel sts).

I had no problem with Row 1,2..... Now I am on Row 3 and row 4 and need help.. I know I slip the first stitch, but do not understand how or what the gap is... Is the gap in row 2? Is the "ssk" the gap. Ok then here is how i think it is written then ROW 3 SLIP STITCH 1, PURL 1, PURL 2 TOGETHER, PURL 1 TURN. should I try that or do I not... PLease Help

The gap is where you turned on the previous row. As you work over to it, it should show itself pretty readily.

If you spread the stitches a little the gap become fairly apparent.

ok thank you much for the heel video. I did all the way to this ;;With RS facing and Needle 1, pick up and k 10 sts
along side of heel flap; with Needle 2, k22 instep sts;
with Needle 3, pick up and k 10 sts along side of heel
flap, k7. Pm for beg of rnd and slip rem 7 sts onto
Needle 1—56 sts.
my scok shows something different then the video, it show a different stitch on the side where I pick up stitches. but I could only pick up 5 stitches on the side cause it runs into the next Needle. I understand how to pick up the stitches on the side. What did I do wrong? Here is what i did before I got to this point. Please help me....HEEL

Sorry for the delay. I'll have to look at the pattern in detail. I do socks from the toe up and don't pick up stitches on the heel. I'll go over the pattern in the morning and see if I can help.

When you do the heel flap, you should have 15 rows: the set up row, and 7 repeats of rows 1 and 2.

"Heel flap
Worked back and forth over next 22 sts.
Set-up row (RS) K22.
Row 1 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 2 Sl 1, k21.
Rep last 2 rows 6 times more."

That'll give you 7 slipped sts along each edge and they should look somewhat like the video. You can pick up in each slip st and pick up an extra st at the point where the heel is closest to the ribbing. That corner can often leave a hole so it's good to pick up an extra st there anyway and knit it through the back loop to tighten it up and prevent the hole. You could then just increase 2 sts along the heel flap on the next row to give you the 10sts that you need.

salmonmac - Thank You. So far I have only knitted socks from the toe-up I had to think about the issue with the heel flap. I am glad to see that I was on the right track.

Ok I will rip it out, to the start of the heel flap again and repeat row 1 and 2,, 7 time, then I will repeat row 2 6 times.... Please help because it dose not say REPEAT ROW 1 AND2 .. 7 TIME... but it dose explane how to get the 10 sts..... I did take picture of what I am doing, but do not know how to insert a picture to show you.

What the instructions say is to knit
"Row 1 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 2 Sl 1, k21."

Then to

"Rep [Repeat] last 2 [both] rows 6 times more."

Both rows will be knit 7 times.

This is a fairly common way to write instructions, however, it is not always clear the first couple of times around. To restate the instructions in long form:

Row 1 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 2 Sl 1, k21
Row 3 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 4 Sl 1, k21
Row 5 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 6 Sl 1, k21
Row 7 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 8 Sl 1, k21
Row 9 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 10 Sl 1, k21
Row 11 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 12 Sl 1, k21
Row 13 (WS) Sl 1, p21.
Row 14 Sl 1, k21


Knitting short hand takes a little to get used to, I can't say how much ripping out I did at the beginning and when I come across a new set of directions.
