Help with reading a pattern!?

So I'm making a teddy bear and I'm jut wondering what sort of increasing I should use.
The pattern:

The head:
Cast on 6 stitches. Work on garter stitch throughout.
Work 1 row.
Next row: increase in every stitch (12 sts)
Work 1 row.
Next row: k1, increase into each of the next 10 sts, k1 (22 sts)
Work 1 row.

Shape nose:
Next row: k1, inc 1, k7, inc 1, k6, inc 1, k7, inc 1, k1 (26 sts)
So this is what I need help with!! What kind of increase should I use? I don't get how the sts add up...

I would suggest using a M1 increase--this occurs between the stitches and there is video for it if you're unfamiliar.

The first section says to increase into the stitch, so that would be a kfb.

When a pattern says to increase IN a stitch, that would be kfb. As Ingrid wrote, a m1 is between stitches and if you do that it may not give you the right number of sts.

Thank you guys so much! Now I have another question about increasing. Now the pattern calls for that I increase 1 st at each end of row. What kind of increase should I use now??

You can use a kfb or m1 just inside the edge sts.

There are videos for several increases at the top of the page. Try some out and see which ones you like and which give you the look that you want. Just remember to count only the extra stitch that you make as the increase and the stitch count will work.
