A Smoke Ring
I am working on my daughter-in-law's Christmas present for this year. I am using Knit Picks Gloss Lace in the mermaid color using the Feather and Fan pattern. It gave me fits trying to get it going . I had to cast on to a straight needle and knit a few rows of garter stitch before I could put it on the circular needle. I used a size 5 to cast on with and knit the garter but the circular needle is a size 4. I have 252 stitches on the needle with 14 repeats of the stitch pattern but height wise I only have 4 repeats done

Sounds like a wonderful project. Knitting a few rows straight is a good idea with so many sts and such fine yarn. Love to see a picture of the finished ring.

Sounds intriguing. But what's a "smoke ring"?

A smoke ring is a long cowl that is knitted in very fine yarn, lace or fingering yarn. You can pull it up and over your head for a hood instead of using a scarf. My daughter-in-law doesn't wear scarves or hats said she would wear a smoke ring if it was knitted in very fine yarn.

When I get it it finished I will take a picture of it and upload it.

This is the cowl I knitted. The color is washed out by the flash. It is lying on a white towel, not a yellow one. I know she will love it. I tolde her to wear it to work and when her co-workers want to know where she bought it, I told her to tell them that they can't buy it anywhere, it was handknitted just for her. However if some one would like to make a special order, I would be happy to make one for a price.
