I'm knitting my uncle a beanie for Christmas but I don't know how long it should be. I'm following a pattern but I still want to make sure its long enough (he has kind of big head haha) How long is the typical men's beanie hat?
Okay, I think about 7-7.5 inches is good if its not going to be folded. Alternatively you could knit it about 2-3 inches longer and he can fold it up as much as he needs. It would be plenty long that way.
It's always hard to say for sure though because there are no measurements.
I think it depends on your climate. A hat that barely covers the ears is probably okay for an evening stroll on a California beach. But here in the Frozen Tundra where it gets 40 below zero, we need a hat that covers the ears. I have a 22 1/2 inch head and mine are 8-9 inches in length. The 9 is about an inch below my ears and more like a bucket hat.
