Poncho Again
PONCHO:
Slip all sts on the same circular needle and continue in the round. Insert 1 marker at beg of round and 1 after half the sts (to mark the sides). Continue to dec mid front and mid back as before. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 12-12-13 cm / 4 3/4"-4 3/4"-5 1/8" dec 1 st each side of marker each side See DECREASING TIP 2! Repeat the dec at the sides on every 6th round (every 3 cm / 1 1/8'') a total of 13-15-17 times (= until finished measurements). After all dec are complete there are 160-172-184 sts left on needle. Continue until piece measures 51-57-63 cm / 20"-22"-24 3/4".

17 times until it measures 22 1/2"?

Which size are you making? There are 17 dec total for the last size which then continues without dec until the piece measures 24 3/4" or 15 dec total for the middle size, final measurement, 22 1/2".

Hi Grumpy Grandma I know I've posted questions about this poncho a lot. Why? I am a self-taught knitter and every time I came across a term or instructions I didn't understand, I ask the forum. I even watched videos and I had to watch them multiple times to get it figured out. I started knitting this poncho about 6 months ago, but would put it down and start a new and easier knitting project every time I got stuck.

I misunderstood the instructions and dec. more than I should of. Drops design patterns are pretty but a little hard to understand the instructions. So I am making the xxxlarge pattern. It didn't specify when really to stop dec. " (every 3 cm / 1 1/8'') a total of 13-15-17 times (= until finished measurements)." I thought that meant to dec. until it was 24 3/4" in length. Now I am unraveling all the knitting I've done.

It's so painful, I know, to unravel those hard won inches but you don't have to undo everything. Just undo the part about 3cm after the 17th dec. From then on, it's straight knitting until the final measurement. Good luck with this pattern which is worth the effort you're putting in to understand and get it right.

I'm not sure how I missed what you were asking but I did. I'm sorry. A lot of us are self-taught with help from here and videos. In time having to frog is less devastating. You're really learning a lot with this project.
