Gap When Using 2 Colors

Beautiful blanket pattern. Want to make another, first done in just one color, but making the border in a different color. Its an integrated border where you knit the bottom 16 rows and knit every first and last 8 stitches in each row. I tried just dropping the border color and picking up the body yarn, but i seem to have a gap between the edge of the blanket (yellow color) and the body of the blanket (blue color). Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.
