Yarn substitution
I have an old pattern calling for Unger Cozy Yarn in 1 3/4 oz balls. Anyone know what is a good substitution. The project is a hooded coat. Thanks for help.

Does the pattern give you the gauge--the number of stitches per 4 inches or 2 inches (or even for 1 inch)? That will help us figure out the yarn weight.

I found the yarn listed on this chart; it's a bulky with 82 yds per 50g, so there should be several you can use.

eta - or Aran weight, like Jan found. That's a heavier worsted, so you could sub a worsted for it.

I found it on Ravelry.
http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/unger-cozy

Weight- Aran weight
Yardage- 82 yds
Gauge- 16 sts = 4"
Needle size- US 9 -5.5 mm
Fiber- 55% acrylic, 45% wool

Generally when you try to sub you look for something the same gauge at least.
