Pick up the sts from a row 6" below onto another needle, then knit a stitch from each needle together. This will make a kind of loop in the headband for half the bow, I bet. It's similar to how you work a 3 needle BO, but you don't bind off the sts, you'll have live ones.

Yep, just knit them together to join them, then go on to the next row and instructions.

Sue's got it. It's a k2tog across the two needles to join a loop of knitting and then continue on with the rib stitch.

i'm trying to complete this bow:

i'm trying to complete the deep textured bow pattern. when i get to the bow it states to measure 6 inches back from working needle, and pick up 10 sts. then to hold these two needles together and knit 1 st from each. so i literally hold the needles together and knit 1 st from each to get a base started for the remainder of the pattern??

Yep, that's right. That will 'fold' it so it makes one of the loops on the bow.
