Slip as if to purl, then knit last stitch?

I have been starting rows by slipping as if to purl, and knitting all the way to the very last stitch of the row. Then I slip as if to purl again, and knit the last stitch again. I am supposed to get a "braided" edge but it only happens on the very beginning and at the opposite side where I bind off. The other two sides are not braided... am I doing anything wrong? She isn't slipping the next to last one, just knitting it, though she might be knitting the last stitch through the back leg. It makes a difference if you slip with the yarn in back or front though you could try with the yarn in back.

Slipping stitches the way she is doing it will only affect the two sides that build up as you knit away from your cast on. When you are holding your project while knitting, these are your left and right sides. In a response to a question about how she got that look on all sides, she says she uses a crochet cast on and a knit bind off. Look in her video list for those tutorials.

Yes, that's the way to do the braided edge. Are you bringing the yarn to the front before you slip the first st purlwise? Then the yarn goes to the back to continue the knit row.

Wow! Both are awesome, but that first one is spot on! I love Slytherin scarves!
I'd like to read an interview with the costumers for the Harry Potter movies. I bet they are so knowledgeable.
I recently read a great interview with Nic Ede, who was the costume designer for the movies Nanny McPhee and Wilde. He said there are just a few "specialists" in London who knit for the industry. I would love to be one of them!

The braided edge notwithstanding, when I knit one of these scarves, I knit it as a tube. It made a double thickness and I didn't have the dread problem of stockinette curl. Enjoy knitting scarves for all the houses!
