Hello - got a yarn substitution question
Hello, I was a member awhile back. I stopped knitting for awhile but now I'm back into it and I want to knit these socks http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vivace-socks

The yarn it calls for is discontinued. It's the Sweet Paprika Design Vivace. http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library...designs-vivace Is this one a good replacement? Its Ty-Dy sock yarn http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library...oo-ty-dy-socks

I THINK the only difference is that it contains 20% nylon and washable wool but for socks that's a good thing right?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, those two should work. Nylon helps socks last longer so it is a good thing. as long as you stick to the same gauge you should be fine.

Welcome back!

I don't see a problem. The nylon will make it wear better or at least I think that's the idea.

The Ty-Dy looks like a good substitute and it comes in a great choice of colors. Have fun knitting these socks!

Thanks ladies. It's good to be back. I decided on a lark to go with a friend to the Flying Fingers Yarn Shop in Tarrytown, NY and I just HAD to knit something. For this yarn, though I'll buy it online so I can get a sale.

This was the first time I used Ravelry's advanced yarn search and its pretty impressive.
