question about a shrug pattern and the ribbing
im working on a moss stitch shrug

for ribbing part says :
work in K2,P2 ribbing as follows:
row 1 (RS): K2,*P2,K2; rep from*across
row 2 (WS):P1,*K2,P2; rep from*across

why does row 2 start with a P ?

Because the edge is in ribbing. Ribbing creates columns of knits and purls by knitting the knits and purling the purls as they appear. A knit stitch on the RS will look like a purl on the WS. When you work that stitch on the WS you purl it.

Seed, or moss, stitch does the exact opposite. You have to knit the purls and purl the knits as they appear.

Now, why your pattern says P ONE when you are working 2x2 ribbing I'm not sure. Does it have a selvedge stitch on one end? That, or is it a misprint?

Yeah. The stitch count will be off by for row 2, as written, and it doesn't say what to do with the last stitch. For ribbing it should start with P2. As written, the rib pattern will be messed up.

I looks like a typo to me, too. The pattern is for k2p2 ribbing. Row 1 ends k2, so row 2 should start with p2 for the usual k2p2 ribbing. Can you give us a pattern link or a pattern name?
