Shetland Floss Shawl row 18 question
Hi! First time poster here! I apologize if this has been asked before, but a google search led me here. I am working on a shawl for a friend of mine's wedding later this summer. But I'm having a slight problem with row 18 of this pattern. It is as follows:

Row 18: p1, *p2 on next yo, (increasing 1st), p5, p2 on next yo, p1, repeat from * (21sts)

I'm pretty confused about the p2 on next yo. How I was doing it was p1 in the yo and then basically doing another yo while the needle was still in the stitch below (if that makes sense). And it gave me the right amount of stitches...until I tried doing the next row which is pretty straightforward.

Row 19: *k1 yo, k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3, yo, k1 rep*

When I tried to knit the next row, I was pretty much losing a stitch at each yo from below, and I couldn't figure out why. Can someone please help me?

Welcome to Knitting Help!
Does the pattern have any directions for how to do the p2 into the yarn over? Sometimes these are at the beginning when the pattern sts are defined. If not, you could do a purl front and back into the yarn over and that will anchor both sts so that you can work into them on the next row.

Here are two videos for pfb. It's demonstrated into a stitch but you can do the same thing into the yo.

Ah, and I can see, no definitions of sts in the pattern:
