pls help this beginner :) re: cable stitch
I am starting or trying to start a knitting pattern Sirdar 1265 baby cardigan...I am stuck on a couple rows. Here is the pattern:

row 1: p19, c4b, c4f, p2, k7
row 2: k9, p8,k2,(p3tog, m3) 4 times, k1
row 3: p19, k8, p2, k7
row 4: p7, k2, p8, k2, (m3, p3tog) 4times, k1
row 5: p19, c4f, cfb, p2, k7
row 6: p7, k2, p8, k2, (p3tog,m3) 4 times, k1
row 7: p19, k8, p2, k7
row 8: k9, p8, k2, (m3,p3tog) 4 times, k1

from 1st to 8th row sets position of cable panel over 8 sts. Keeping continuity of cable panel as set (throughout) proceed as follows:

row 9: as 1st row
10th row: p7, k2, patt 8, k2, (p3tog, m3) 4 times, k1

11th and 12th rows: as 3rd and 4th rows
13th row: as 5th row
14th to 16th row: as 2nd to 4th row
17th row: as 1st row
18th row: as 6th row

19th row: p19, patt8, p2, k7
20th row: k9, patt8, k2, (m3, p3tog) 4 times, k1
21st row: p19, patt8, p2, k7

etc..

I thought row 10 would be patt 8 = purl 8, row 19 would be c4b,c4f, 20 would be purl 8, 21 would be k8...where did I mess up??

Thank you so much for the help!!!!

You would cross the cables on rows 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29, in other words, every fourth row.

Every even row will have you purl those 8 stitches.
