Mitten thumb troubles!
I've just started out on my very first pattern (yay!) and decided that a pair of mittens would be a sensible place to start! I've managed to get the ribbing section done and have now come across the following instructions:

To shape thumb:
Next row - K32, turn, cast on 2 sts
Next row - P14, turn, cast on 2 sts
Work on these 16 sts for 16 rows, ending on a P row.

There are a total of 50 stitches and I have done the K32 and cast on my 2 stitches but what do I do with the rest of the 18 stitches that are left on the other needle?! Do I keep knitting until the end of the row? The pattern just states 'next row' - someone please help this drowning beginner!!

Any advice is much appreciated!!

Hi and welcome!
You can do the easiest thing with the remaining 18sts, ignore them. Don't knit to the end of the row. After you cast on 2sts, turn and work on the purl side. You'll be purling back on the 2 cast on sts and the last 14sts that you knit. After you've purled these 16sts, turn again to the knit side and keep on with just there 16sts. You'll get back to the other sts later.
Congrats on you first project. Mittens are a great place to start.
