Thumb hole too tight
I"m making my first pair of mittens using magic loop. Decided to try it on after 7 rounds done on the hand part. And the thumb hole just feels way too tight for my hand. The pattern I used calls for slipping 4 stitches onto holder for thumb and picking up stitches for thumb itself. If I tink back to that point, would slipping more stitches help? Or perhaps casting on more stitches after slipping the 4? I'm guessing the number of stitches slipped and the number Cast on should be the same...is that accurate?

Either method you mention would likely work for making the thumb hole larger.

But, what you need to decide for sure is, is it the thumb hole size or the thumb hole placemant that is the problem. If the opening is too low or too high in relation to your thumb it may feel tight even though it isn't. In this case you would need to relocate the slipped sts (a few rows earlier/later) as needed.

Yes, I agree. You might also be a litte tighter than the given gauge and that's making the thumbhole smaller. When you pick up sts to knit the thumb, the opening will close up a bit more. Try slipping a stitch or two more and casting on more. Check too what the extra sts will do to the top part of the mitten and the decreases to shape the top.
