Pattern Troubles
I started knitting this pattern a few months ago until I came across some errors in it. They are in Rows 6, 11 and 17. I have been able to figure out how Row 6 should read, but cannot do the same for Rows 11 and 17. Row 11 has 5 stitches at the start and 10 at the end with 31 stitches in between, which have to be divided equally between a group of 10 stitches. Row 17 has 10 stitches at the start and 10 at the end, leaving 26 stitches to divide between a group of 10.

If anyone can figure this out before I give up on the pattern altogether I shall be very grateful.

Thanks!

Gillian

Hello, the instructions on the attachment do look weird.

I remember finding a good Youtube video on Butterfly Stitch (Purl Side) a while back (7.25 onwards for the Butterfly).

KnitPurlHunter has also done a video showing how to do Butterfly Stitich (Knit Side) (3.30 onwards for the butterfly).

For some reason Youtube videos are muted on my computer and I don't know if it's them or me. If it's Youtube, it should be possible to work out, from the videos, what to do with the centre stitch of each butterfly.

Hope that helps.

Youtube has been muted for me also. I can turn the sound on again, why it went to default mute I do not know. I noticed this yesterday. Thanks for the links!

You get extra credit for getting as far as row 11 on this pattern.
It looks like it will work as
row 6 k3 *k5, sl5* 4x, k3
row 11 k3 p3 *butterfly st, p9* 3x, p7, k3
row 12 k3 *sl5, k5* 4x, k3
row 17 k3, p7 *p9, butterfly st* p3, k3
I'm not sure about the order of the purl sts and the butterfly st in row 17 (p9, butterfly or butterfly, p9?) but you may be able to see this when you get to the row.
Julie, thanks for the links!

Thank you so much, ladies, for not telling me there was nothing wrong with the pattern and for not telling me to trust the pattern when there clearly was something wrong with it and was not to be trusted!

Thank you especially, Salmonmac, for giving me credit for getting as far as I did and, even more importantly, for coming up with a corrected version. The maths definitely fit that one so I shall be trying out your version - right after I've finished my husband's woolly hat, which shouldn't take too much longer.

Will let you know when I'm done - with the dishcloth, that is.
