I'm d/l the pattern so I can try that ribbing thing myself. The others look different but not better than yours. Remember, they were probably very carefully blocked and then slipped onto a foot which was order not to move and then photographed. IRL they wouldn't look like in the photo.

I especially like the socks on the left. I didn't know JoAnn's had their own brand of sock yarn, those are beautiful colors. And the pink pair, what a nice pattern!

Nice work! Yes, those self-patterning yarns are fantastic, aren't they? The pattern looks like you worked with Fair Isle!

Love them! Self-patterning sock yarn is awesome, isn't it?

Great job! I like both pairs.
Taking a sock class from the LYS next weekend. Not sure why they scare me so much. I've tackled lace, fair isle, etc, but not socks and cables. Both are on my to do list. I've had some sock yarn for about 4 years in my stash that is just sitting there waiting to be used!

Enjoy the class, it's really not at all difficult to make basic socks. I hadn't done any of the things you mention, I knit a few dishcloths and a scarf and then went straight to socks. I used Ann Budd's book Getting Started Knitting Socks and found it easy to follow along with it. Perhaps you're over thinking the situation!
