It looks like a variation on Portuguese knitting to me. Perhaps Charlotte knows.

Love it! BTW...your avatar is perfect. My GD the other day came over and saw all my new yarns I bought from knitpicks and she said...Nana...I think maybe you have too much yarn...uhhhh like you kinda might have a problem....and I said...are you trying to say that I am hording yarn?? She said....UHHH well I didn't want to say that....and I said...well why not ....I do horde yarn and fabric....
then she said....well I didn't want to be impolite....HAHA!

I told her....well it's true honey....Nana does horde yarn and fabric....(and beautiful empty boxes). LOL!

Usually I have it all organized in my sewing room so it isn't quite as evident (space bags full under bed, in closets, etc) but due to a broken foot and X-mas presents to make...the yarn is all over the living room where it is easier to match colors.
