She threw knit slippers away!
Last fall I knit a pair of the Fiber Trends felted clogs and they shrunk a little too much so I gave them to my MIL. She has had them about 6 months and this weekend she tells me that she needs a new pair...um why? Well, the pair you made me got so dirty from me wearing them all the time and the dog likes to carry them around so I had to throw them out. WHAT ! In less than 6 months you managed to trash a pair of slippers I put time, effort and money into and you expect me to make you another pair?!!! I make them a size big for my boys and they are able to wear them for two years without ruining and then the little guy will wear the big guys. 6 months ! She threw them away after letting the dog carry them around !!!

Let me guess, she isn't tops on your list of people to knit for.

I'd say MIL has removed herself from the "people I'll knit for" list completely. Buy her cheapie slippers, maybe from a thrift store....

I'd say she is "no longer knitworthy."

You could tell her that you only knit slippers once a year and she's already used up her "slipper quota" for this year!!!

No way! My sister loved her first pair so much I've had to replace one she lost and the other when it wore too thin to fix...and she still looked all over for one more present under the Christmas tree last year because she was sure there was a new pair somewhere

Is it possible that she just didn't realize that they could be washed? Maybe she remembered you telling her upon gifting that they had shrunk too much. She may have thought they couldn't be washed more/again as they would be ruined. I would explain to her the amount of time it takes to make a pair and that you will do it for her once again as long as she keeps in mind proper care...
1) Wear them, don't abuse them.
2) Keep them away from the dog.
3) Wash them in cold water and set out to dry.
4) If in doubt, ask. You may be able to offer a solution/repair if necessary.

How frustrating..
On a positive note at least she liked them enough to ask for another pair!

I am finding people don't appreciate the time , effort or the expense that goes into knitted garments.
