intro
Hi all! I admit, I've been lurking around for awhile and decided this site was too much fun to not join. :D
I'm a 30 year old teacher married and with two kids and three dogs. I've been knitting for about 1 1/2 and consider myself obsessed.
If I could figure out a way to incorporate knitting into history class I would. :thinking:
My biggest projects lately have been afghans since I made a bunch for Christmas presents for nieces and nephews. I would like to try some sweaters (I tried a few, but didn't quite understand weaving in ends and seaming so yuck.)
I'm looking forward to chatting...

Kim - Are you doing American history or world history?? It would be amazingly easy to work into any discussion of Ireland/Scotland, Scandinavian countries, sailors, etc... watch out, though, or your class will turn into the history of knitting, and related discourses and studies of the different methods and fibers and... see, there I go already :rollseyes:

Rebecca, I have American history from around 1870 to present. I think I could swing it into early American, (ok, I know I could there) but not so sure about this era....keep suggestions coming though.

Actually you could talk about the growth of the middle class and the pressures of the Victorian mindset. You could discuss what (wealthy) Victorian women did with their leisure time, like hair weaving, lace making, those diorama things made out of shells that were placed under glass bells....And then you could link it to feminism and women's suffrage...
 I'll just go away now...

Hello folks,
I must admit to being a serial lurker for a long time now!
I've only been knitting a few months - got scarves down pat, although it took me a while to figure out what to do with the new ball ends (Weird middle of the scarf tassles!)
Despite being thousands of miles away from all of you, and having no access to the lovely yarns you all talk about, I wanted to join and share my very newfound love of knitting with someone. Here in London it's still pretty tricky to find wool shops, and even trickier to know what to buy once you get there! I've a stash already and I don't even know what half of it is! Damn e-bay.
Anyhoo - Hi! Fantastic website and forum, I love it.
