Hello!
I'm a highly new knitter here, as in just picked up my first needles today out of sheer boredom I decided id pick up a new hobby and decided knitting needed to be tried out! I'm 21, work early morning so most of my days after work I spend sitting around watching tv so now I have something to do with my hands. The only thing is that I'm slightly intimidated by the amount of terminology that apparently exists in the knitting world! Any advice?

Welcome to knitting and to Knitting Help! There are some new terms to learn and maybe some new ways of using old ones but take it one step at a time. Use the Glossary tab at the top of this page. There are practical and useful definitions of terms and in many cases, videos to demonstrate. The Free Videos tab has some great videos too. And you can always ask here.

My name is Gypsycream (Pat) and .....
I'm addicted to designing and knitting bears

I live in the UK and I've stumbled across this amazing place while I was searching for a neat and tidy way to sew up. Looks to be a lovely place to spend a few hours chatting to other knitting addicts

Looking forwards to meeting you all.

Welcome GypsyCream. I was just in the UK this month. My younger son lives in London and my wife and I went to visit.

Hello,
I am new to this Forum but not new to knitting. My grandmother taught me and my brother to knit when I was 7 years old. I have loved knitting ever since! My brother....well, he never continued with knitting!

Increase
Pattern calls for M1R and M1L. Have seen your video on how to do it but do I actually have to increase that way. Can't I do it the old fashion way.

Hi and welcome. This thread it more for saying hello. You'll get more replies if you post in the General Knitting or How To forums. Also tells us what pattern you're doing, sometimes you can substitute, but it depends what it is and where you do it.

Hello from a new knitter
I just started knitting this year after taking a class at my local library. I've already completed a couple of projects and am now starting on an afghan. I found this site about a week ago and have already learned so much from browsing and watching the videos. Thank you all for the great information - this site is wonderful!

Amanda

Hi Amanda and welcome to KnittingHelp! That's awfully nice of your library to host a knitting class. Glad you learned and are enjoying knitting.

hi! im shai!
Just picked up my first set of needles couple days ago and I'm very excited about starting a new hobby. I work 3rd shift 12 hours a day mainly on weekends and I needed something to keep me busy during the week. I'm currently beginning a scarf and I'm stuck. I did something wrong and cannot figure it out. Any help would be awesome!! Look forward to making friends.
