need help with pattern reading

I'm knitting a baby sweater but am stuck halfway. Not sure what
"work even on the stitches" means. Can someone please help.

Hi Nani,
When a pattern says "work even" it means do not increase or decrease. I looked at the pattern: you have already cast on 30 stitches, worked for 5.5 inches, and then cast on 18 stitches at both edges. Since 18+18+30= 66, you should work those 66 stitches even, in garter stitch, without increasing or decreasing for another 4 inches, or until it measures 9.5 total.
