Are Patons and Bernat the same company?

I ask this because I've signed up for membership at the Patons website yesterday, and then tried to sign up at Bernat's website today without success. The interfaces were almost identical, and their contact info (only a Canadian snail mail address, no email address) was the same. But if you sign up for one, you aren't allowed to sign up for the other with the same username because "that username is already taken." You'd think my password for Patons would work on Bernat, but it doesn't. They ought to fire their web programmer if you ask me. I'd email them a complaint if I could!
