Stitching design

Am looking into coming up with a new stitching design, what, besides Drawing it on paper would all y'all recommend with figuring out how to do it, should I use actual stitch symbols, guess, trial and success? hmm kinda at a loss here.... :thinking:

I have used excel to work out a color pattern....

I've used Excel for color work too. I haven't yet ventured to designing st patterns, but when I do I'm sure I will use excel, or graph paper. Then again, there's nothing wrong with just picking up some needles and scrap yarn and writing it down as you go. Let us know how it goes

KellyK, I'm thinking about a true hourglass stitch, not just the glass part of it either, cause I already know those exist, will probably end up using horizontal and vertical dashes, right along doing a cable medallion inside... though I'm not sure what I'd use it for Oh well, time enough to think about that later.
