Knitting Length Wise Stripes
i want to knit a scarf in length wise stripes, but i'm worried that if i cast on lengthways it'll restrict the stretch of the scarf. Any one got any birght ideas? I would also like it to be possible to swiss darn/ duplicate stitch onto it, as it is suppoed to be a football (soccer) scarf.

I don't see why you couldn't knit a scarf that way. I don't really seen the need for scarves to be all that "stretchy." You could make a st st scarf with garter st edges and then have a whole 'field' on which to embroider. Maybe making a symbol at each end, or something.
