Circular Needle Issue!!

Hey someone/anyone. I am just a semi new knitter. I've been at it for about 5 or 6 years and yet I haven't mastered how to use circular needles. :thinking: My problem is that I don't know how to knit with them...without making it into one big circle....if you get my point. The pattern I'm using asks for size 10 US circular needle and to switch to a size 3 US. That's fine but whenever I keep trying to make the 3rd row which is just straight knitting, it connects the whole thing together and that's not what I want. I hope someone can help me and get this whole cirrcular needle dilemma solved.

When I started reading your post, I was a little confused, because knitting on circs is supposed to get you a big circle.

Then I realized that you want to knit straight on circ, right?

When you get to the end of the row, don't continue knitting. Turn the whole thing around so the working yarn is on the left point and the purl side is facing you. The bring the other point around and start knitting. Just keep flipping the whole thing over as if it were on straights, but use the other end as your 'other needle'. I hope this is clear enough.

Youngknitter, I think the problem is that you just keep going in a circle, and if that's not what you want (meaning you don't want a tube like structure), then you have to turn your work. So you get to the end of a row, turn your work like usual as if you had two separate needles. Put the right one in the left hand, vice-versa.

Thats right..
Just use them as tho you had two needles in your had..
Work to the end and then TURN work around and work to other end...
