Wow, I am sooo stuck!!!

I've been trying to learn for a few days now. I got the boyle learning kit and walmart and have watched the videos and studied the book intently. However, my knits no matter if I'm doing garter, stockingnet or whatever will not look like v's. Everything comes out looking like purls!!! :thinking: I'm using the throwing method and I've even sat and done it with the video but I still get purls! :( Any help or idea what I'm doing wrong???
