Afghan confusion

Alright everyone here's the scoop. I'm "trying" to make this afghan but I'm having a little bit of trouble trying to figure out how I can make the pattern work properly. Well the pattern is suppose to look like this (the purple squares are horizontal stripes and the green are vertical stripes) I know I can just knit all of the squares separately and then knit them together afterwards, not a problem. BUT there's a problem..well semi delimma. In each square there's a pattern. (ok I had all this written down but I lost the pattern ages ago and just found the picture now so I'm trying bring it back to life lol)
Anyways, in the patter it's suppose to have some rows in garter then switch to knit a row and purl a row for a little bit. I know confusing. :crying: I've been trying to figure out how I can make these blocks a certain size with what needles and when to switch from kniting to purling but I'm simply confusing myself even further. SOmeone Please Help me!!
Oh ya, the pattern is 65 in ches by 65 inches.

Usually when you're making afghan squares, each square has an edging, so I image that the edgings could be in garter stitch--knit every row for the first five or so rows and knit the first and last 5 stitches of each block.

Then you would knit the striped section in stockinette, knit one row, purl one row, or if you wanted you could do stockinette on one stripe of color and reverse stockinette on the other color. It depends on what you want it to look like.

As for size, you could make the squares any size you want. Then number of stitches would depend on the size needles and the type of yarn you want to use.
