Resizing a pattern

I hope you can help. My mom wants to make this top: http://secure.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=28024 (Katia Serpentina Summer Top) but would need to enlarge the pattern. Does anyone know how this could be done and still keep the diagonal stripe in place? Is there a good resource somewhere about enlarging a pattern? I haven't been able to find anything.

HERE is an article at knitty.com about sizing. You could also knit the largest size of the pattern with a different gauge...like if it calls for 8spi do 6 spi instead. I think that would depend on how much larger you need it to be.
