How do I "pick up and knit 1 stitch at the right side of the thumb, 1 stitch at the base of the thumb, and 1 st at the left side of the thumb"? The yarn has been cut and used to finish the thumb seam. Do I make a slip knot or what? I need help!!

I think they want you to pick up and knit with a new yarn, as in the above video. If that's not it, maybe you can give us some more details.
