OK, well, I'm a month late in finding this thread. I guess I really must start reading more than what my email notifies me about. (In case anyone is checking, I *do* realize I ended that sentence in a preposition, and I just have to say that if Winston Churchill can do it, then so can I.)

NO NO NOOOOO... you NEVER EVER give the guy a third choice.. he will pick the "only as a friend" one everytime. Know why? Because he will think that it will keep him looking cool to his friends, while not being as harsh as saying "NO" and will save you from burning his "The Clash" backpack, while preserving his future attempts to ask you out. Like, for sure.
