How do you count the rows for the stitches on a sweater pattern?

To count rows, you can do a number of things. The simplest is to make a slash mark on a scrap of paper each time you turn your knitting. You can purchase a row counter, a little cylinder that sits on your needle, which you turn as you complete each row--available everywhere and cheap. Or you can look at the knitting and count the number of 'v' stitches up from your cast-on edge to see how many rows you've knit.
