Bek!!!! Congratulations!!!! I know how hard it is for you in BR right now, I wish there were something I could do. I am in Pensacola, and we are getting many refugees as well, but no where near the number you are getting.
I had to go to Children and Family Services today, and many people from LA were there to apply for food stamps. One lady was describing the devistation she witnessed, I cried, I could do nothing else.
There are so many unanswered questions. I am so thankful that help is on the way. I know here, one radio station collected 4 or 5 PODS full of donations (they collected at all the local Wal-Marts) and they were frantically trying to get through to Catholic Charities to get them delivered. CC wanted them sent to Hattiesburg, which would have been no help, as so many are without transportation to get there to get the provisions.
Alabama seems to be coming out of thier end of things well, they are getting power back, and gas is not as scarse as it was. (Even here we are sitting for quite some time to buy gas. Our prices have not gone up, but many areas have.)
On a personal note, my sister was supposed to move to New Orleans in a week. We are thanking God she did not go sooner.
