How do you cast on when you using circular needles after you have done 2 inches of the pattern stitch. I am baffled :

I take it you have to add more stitches? I usually use a backward loop cast on method to add stitches. Wherever they tell you to add them on, just add on to the needle at that point and keep going. If this doesn't help, can you tell us what the pattern is for and what it says exactly?

thank you
I am trying to knit a shrug pattern that is on the Berrocco website at

http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/sarena/sarena.html

and it says : Still working in Pat St, cast on 48 sts at beg of the next 2 rows 200(216) sts

Some how I got a hole and that did not look correct.

You're casting on the stitches for the sleeves. Cast on the stitches at the end of the row. Work across and then cast on 48 more at the end of the second row. That will be the easiest way.

This works the same as if you did it at the beginning, but is easier.
