Looking for an afghan pattern

I am a new knitter and I would really like to make my mother an afghan. I am looking for a pattern that is good for a beginner but looks hard :rofling: I can knit and purl very well so if it has something else to learn I'm pretty sure I can pick it up quick.

I am currently about 1/2 way through knitting it and it is gorgeous. Like you, I can knit and purl but am pretty much starting all over after not picking up needles since high school.

I gave up trying to knit this on regular needles and bought circular ones. It is much too large and heavy otherwise. Also, I'm going to make another one when I'm finished but am going to try it on #11 needles instead of the #10 and see how that goes. The chenille yarn is so soft but very expensive so be sure to look for it on sale.

If you try it, please let me know what you think.
