Coronet Hat from Free Patterns
Hi there ...

The pattern for this lovely hat reads [i]Row 3: K2, p2, sl next 3 sts onto cable needle leaving needle in front of work, k3, k 3 sts from cable needle, k3, p2, k2.

I recently learned how to cable ... c6f ... knit last three and then first three ... how then (according) to the hat pattern do I do the cable? Does that mean to knit the three per the instruction ... maybe I'm not reading it right ...

You're also doing a C6f in this hat. They're just spelling out that after you put the stitches on the cable needle, you'll knit the three from the left needle and then the three on the cable needle. Then you end with a k2, p2, k2.

Row 3: K2, p2, sl next 3 sts onto cable needle leaving needle in front of work, k3, k 3 sts from cable needle, k3, p2, k2.

After you do the initial K2, P2, you will slip the next 3 sts from your left needle onto your cable needle and hold the cable needle to the front of your work. You will then knit 3 stitches from your left needle, ignoring the cable needle for the moment, THEN knit the 3 stitches that are on your cable needle, and finally finish the stitch sequence doing your K3, P2, K2.

Does this make more sense?

The coronet pattern is C6F....it's the same thing, you do just as the pattern reads & you will have a C6F, this pattern is just not calling it C6F, but it's the same thing.
K2, p2, then slip the next 3 sts onto the cable needle & bring the cable needle with sts on it to the front of your work, then knit the next 3 sts that are on your left needle, then knit the 3 sts from the cable needle that was hanging to the front of your work, then continue k3, p2, k2 to complete the row. Is this of any help?!
