FO - Lavold cap - Meatballs anyone?

OK.... it's done. :rofling: I'm thinking there's a problem. I look like the Swedish Chef!

First photo - Me! OK, kidding! This is what I think it looks like. Next photo is me. I'm not impressed! This is even modified! The crown is about half of what it was originally. The bottom is what it is SUPPOSED to look like. Eww... how did this happen? Ingrid, I trusted the pattern but... this just looks so.... wrong!

I will not give up on these patterns but... I'm not sure I'll be doing anymore caps. Maybe I need to get in touch with Ms. Lavold and ask her a few questions like... what size head do you write these patterns for?!? Maybe childbirth not only killed brain cells, it shrunk my brain!

OK, two more photos....

The first photo is of the cap by itself. It almost looks right like that but once you put it on... all bets are off.

One is of me in a "scrunched up" version. I also put it at a different angle. My DH is trying to tell me that, "You're just not used to wearing hat's like that." Well, duh! Nope, honey, it's just not right!

How the heck did they get that photo?!? Why don't I look like the chick in the photo? Oh, I know, because it's not green and I'm not sitting on a rock! That MUST be it! I should have used green and sat on a rock for the photo then I'd look just like her!!!

Ha! I Chef!! So, I think it looks wonderful!

Really, you did a GREAT job - it does look exactly like the picture I think. Maybe you should just give it go wearing it around. It could grow on you. Try slanting it a different couple of ways to see if you can find a better fit.
Don't just chuck it though - it's awesome work!

You're very sweet! It was a bit of work going from circular needles to dpn so it will not be disposed of! I may grow attached to it or... my DD may take a liking to it! She's a funny child anyway so... who know!

It does look just like the picture though! Hmmm, maybe you do need to sit on a rock and look pensive for the full effect. You did a beautiful job, though!

I agree, it looks exactly like the hat in the pattern photo. And I think you look very cute and jaunty in it.
Ditto what the others said--wear it a couple different ways, squished down, puffed up, angles, etc.
If you still think it looks like a chef hat (and what's wrong with that!) go ahead and plunk it on when you're making dinner. Just don't get rid of it. It's really quite nice, IMO!

Ang, that hat is HILARIOUS! It does look like the pictue, though!!!! I think the difference is that the cabeled band is just tighter on the model, and the poofy part sits more flat and drapey than up and chef-like. Or it could be the rock, who knows

I like it. Who else has a hat like that???? I say wear it with pride. And if DD likes it, that can be her official "helper in the kitchen" hat!!!

You guys are so awesome! I know it's not quite right but everyone has made me feel so much better. I was so upset and feeling very sorry for myself. I know that I can knit but... this project seriously undercut my confidence. I've been wondering if I should just stick to scarves and throws and simple projects. :(

Oh, don't limit yourself by having one project not go the right way! Scarves and throws are too boring! Maybe if you were to try it again, you could try smaller needles? That might help...but it might just be a weird hat to begin with or a model with a huge head. lol. I think you did a good job though!
