measuring
  • I am a beginning knitter. There is something that I don't understand. When the pattern states "knit until piece measures 5 inches", does this mean you measure the stitches that are on the knitting needle? Or does it mean you measure up to the needle and exclude the stitches on the needle? Thanks for any help!! Linda

I measure right up to the needle, and do not count the row on the needle. I think it might vary with different people, but as long as you are consistant within your project, you should be okay.

I only measure to the needle, also.
