When do you block an item, and how do you block?

You block after you have finished knitting a piece. If it is something that needs to be put together, you block before you assemble it. I usually lay a towel on my carpeted living room floor, lie the pieces flat, pin it into the correct shape, and spray the pieces with water until the pieces are saturated. Let them dry then remove the pins and assemble.

I only block if I think something needs it--I don't block acrylic for example, because it doesn't block, anyway. I also usually assemble it first, if it is blockable. I always block things that are made of wool, because it really does make a difference.
