yarn advice needed

Well, I'm still looking for the right yarn for that summer sweater. I found the pattern in a library book, and it calls for Newport merc. cotton yarn, which I CANNOT find. Alternative is any bulky cotton. (4 in/st on #9) What do you guys think of these? I realize that they may not be exactly right, but do you think either one will work? Which do you think would be better?

Well, your gauge might not be exact, but if you can do the math for that, I'd say go for it!!

The price on that second one is slightly better, but the first looks so soft and a lot less splitty... If you can find itin the color you want, I'd say go with that - and also, I've been flipping through my Patternworks catalog, they have a lot of decently priced cottons, too.

I just love cotton...good luck on your sweater!!
